Artist Lee Downey created this unique hand-carved piece from a Siberian Woolly Mammoth tusk, and decorated it intricately with oceanic wildlife and flora, including dolphins, jellyfish, turtles, octopuses, sea stars, corals, seahorses, crabs, and many other distinctive forms. The sculpture’s base is hand-carved with a stylized Nautilus shell in Siberian Jet, a fossil stone millions of years old.
Woolly Mammoths lived during the Pleistocene Epoch. This extinct species is among the best studied prehistoric animals, in part because of frozen specimens preserved for millennia in Siberia.
