Only a small fraction of life makes it into the fossil record. Most living organisms simply disappear without a trace. Diplomystus is an extinct genus of freshwater clupeomorph fish distantly related to modern-day extant herrings, alewives, and sardines. A small schooling fish, Knightia made an abundant food source for larger Eocene predators. This beautiful framed piece of natural history contains a Diplomystus and a Knightia Tail, displayed in an elegantly designed shadow box.
