The Sasuma from Northern Thailand is a popular giant katydid. The body length can be well over 5½”, but adding on the long antennae and legs can make the overall presentation closer to 9″. Insects in the family Tettigoniidae are commonly called Bush Crickets in the UK, Katydids in the US, or Long-Horned Grasshoppers. More than 6,400 species are known. Primarily nocturnal, many katydids exhibit mimicry and camouflage, commonly with shapes and colors similar to leaves. As with the Corporalis, signs of “decay damage” on the wings add to their leaf-life appearance.
